PHOTOGRAPHY

Style and vision are a constantly evolving process, especially in the creative realm. Over the past several years I've shifted the concentration of my work to an ambient interpretation of the American landscape, with a special focus on the Great Lakes region. This exploration includes the use of instant film, which has allowed me to explore the idea as the photograph as a contained single object.

The idea of purity and feeling plays a central role in my explorations. Light, color, shape, form, mood, and memory help to shape my images. Each element can be broken down into universal concepts and feelings that allow myself and the viewer to be united through engaging in visual senses.

Additionally, I often give much emphasis to the exploration and challenge of how we traditionally define the process of image making through the use of light and capture. The primary force of this lies in the deconstruction of the aspects and expectations of photography, allowing the basics of the medium to reveal themselves in different formats.

By challenging the perception of the medium through exploring different output and installation techniques, the concept of “image as object” is a driving force behind my approach to image making. Working with a diverse set of tools — instant film, scanners, editing software, expired film, analog cameras, alternative printing and more — I have taken the ordinary and through thoughtful construction, hope to represent it to the world in a format we do not expect — one that makes us reconsider the everyday and what we know, believe, and hope for.
